Job Description

St. Mary’s Parish in Simsbury, Connecticut is seeking a full time Youth Minister and  Coordinator of Religious Education. The position has three components:

• Pastoral ministry to the youth of St. Mary’s Parish of middle school, high school and college age
• The organization and supervision of the religious education program for students in middle and high school
• The organization and the supervision of the Confirmation Program for students in grades nine and ten.

Essential Functions

• Ministers to the middle school, high school, and college youth
  • By getting to know students and ministering to them as needed
  • By establishing a vital youth group that provides youth with a sense of fellowship and social cohesion that will enable them to live out their Catholic faith
• Develops goals, objectives and strategies for the religious education program
  Designs a catechetical program for students in grades 7-10
  Designs and carries out a confirmation program that enables young people to be committed Catholics
• Provides high school and college students who have been confirmed with social and educational opportunities to grow in their faith
• Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates catechists and other volunteers
• Participates in the community and worship life of St. Mary’s Parish

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Desired

• Good organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with others 
• Ability to make effective public presentations
• Strong computer skills; Knowledge of and use of social media
• Ability to prioritize projects
• Self-motivated
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Music and/or artistic skills that facilitate relationship building with middle, high school, and college students are desirable.
• Familiarity with Life Teen and Edge desirable

Special Working Conditions

• Availability to work most weekends during the school year
• Evening meetings as well as regular business hours
  Requirements:
• A practicing Catholic
• A BA or BS that includes studies in education and/or religious
  studies/theology. An MA in Religious Education is desirable.

About St. Mary’s Church

We are located in Simsbury, CT. We are a parish community of 2,200 households and over 200 students at St. Mary’s school. St. Mary’s Church offers a daily Mass, a Saturday evening vigil Mass and three Masses on Sunday.
