Youth Ministry

A youth minister or “director of youth ministry” is the staffer at a Catholic parish in charge of activities for middle school and high school aged students.*

Typical responsibilities of a youth minister include:
Sunday evening youth group meetings
Recruiting volunteers to help run the youth group
Leading mid-week Bible Studies
Visiting students at schools, sports games, and other activities.

Youth ministers are also responsible for planning several weekend-long retreats for the teenagers. Typically, you’ll have a fall and spring retreat, a freshman retreat, and a Confirmation retreat as well.

*Most often, a youth minister is responsible for high-school aged teenagers at the parish.
