Job Description

Responsible for coordinating Register bloggers – assigning, editing, publishing and monitoring blogs; assisting in the publishing of daily content; and implementing the Register’s blog and social media strategy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinates Register bloggers – assigning, editing, publishing and monitoring blogs; assisting in the publishing of daily content; implementing the Register’s blog and social media strategy. Approves (or send back for rewrites), schedules, and publishes blogger content
2. Keeps up-to-date on Catholic news and discussions on blogosphere and pitches relevant assignment ideas to editorial team and bloggers
3. Strives for timeliness, accuracy, integrity and reader engagement through the development of blog assignments, coordination of writers and editing of content
4. Monitors comment box to assure adherence to comment policy
5. Assists the managing editor and news editor in the publishing of daily news online, especially helping to prepare and post wire stories
6. Coordinates content on social media to generate maximum views
7. Measures and tracks the effectiveness of bloggers and blog topics based on number of views, comments, and shares
8. Performs continuous enhancements and modifications to blog and social media strategy in consultation with the editorial and marketing team
9. Works closely with editor in chief to set and understand the goals for blog, create the blog style guide, determine types of writers to contribute content, establish an editorial calendar for the blog and plan the budget for hiring bloggers.
10. Participates regularly in editorial meetings and assists editor in chief in putting into effect the overall strategic plan for the Register
11. Attends seminars, conference, and workshops to keep abreast of industry trends and technologies.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2-3 years’ experience in Journalism or Communications, with emphasis on blogging and social media
• Excellent editing and organizational skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
• Clear communications skills and ability to work with colleagues, advertisers and readers diplomatically
• Understanding of news industry, blogosphere and social media and the ability to gather and interpret trend data
• Awareness of ethical and legal issues related to on line publishing
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to journalistic excellence
• Flexibility to find quick solutions to problems
• Ability to deal with sensitive subjects with prudence and discretion and seek counsel from editor in chief or executive director when necessary
• Knowledge and practice of Roman Catholic faith
• The ability to travel as much as 10-15% (maximum of two trips per year)

EDUCATION

Required:
• Undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications or related field

Preferred:
• Advanced Degree in Theology
